The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has distanced itself from a press statement attributed to Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru, describing him as neither a member of the party nor chairman In Ikwerre Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Chief Leader Sampson, the party said, “For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru is not a member of the African Democratic Congress and does not hold any office or authority to speak for or on behalf of the party at any level.”

The ADC alleged that the claims linked to Ohahuru form part of “a calculated attempt by political infiltrators and their agents to create confusion, mislead the public, and destabilize the duly constituted structures of the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area and Rivers State at large.”

According to the party, the recognised chairman of the ADC in Ikwerre LGA is Mr. Temple Chinedu Egwenike, whose leadership it said remains legitimate and constitutionally backed.

The statement described the circulation of “false claims, unauthorized directives, and attempts to intimidate party members” as acts of political sabotage aimed at weakening the party’s acceptance as an alternative political platform in the state.

While affirming commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, the ADC warned it would not allow “impostors, political jobbers, or external agents” to undermine its internal democracy.

The party also raised concerns about alleged plans by Ohahuru and unnamed sponsors to secure questionable court orders to trigger political crisis and legitimise illegality. It urged the judiciary to remain vigilant and avoid being used for partisan interference, stating that justice must be seen to be done in line with democratic principles.

ADC further called on security agencies, including the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force, to monitor the activities of those it described as impostors to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The party encouraged members, supporters, and residents of Ikwerre to remain law-abiding and participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, describing it as essential to democratic participation.

Reaffirming its political objectives, the ADC said it remains focused on building credible leadership structures across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State as it positions itself for future governance contests.
