The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Bakori, on Tuesday declined to comment on whether the command was incurring losses due to the deployment of officers and operational resources to guard Aminu Ado Bayero at the Nasarawa Government Reserved Area (GRA) palace.

Bakori said that making detailed comments on issues surrounding the Kano Emirate Council would be prejudicial, stressing that the police must remain neutral and be guided strictly by the law in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Aminu Ado Bayero is one of the key figures in the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle, a crisis that has continued to generate political tension and intense public debate across the state.

Despite repeated questions on the manpower and logistics committed to securing Bayero, the Commissioner maintained that the police would not be drawn into discussions that could be interpreted as taking sides in the dispute.

He emphasised that the primary responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force is the maintenance of law and order, as well as the protection of lives and property, irrespective of the individuals involved.

However, the sustained presence of police personnel and patrol vehicles at the Nasarawa GRA palace has fuelled allegations from some quarters that the police are favouring one side in the emirate crisis.

Critics argue that such extensive deployments contradict previous claims by both past and present police leadership that the command is facing acute shortages of manpower and operational vehicles.

While declining further comment on the emirate matter, the Commissioner reassured residents of Kano State that the police would continue to act professionally and within the confines of the law as events surrounding the emirate dispute continue to unfold. (Nigerian Tribune)
