The ennobling policy direction of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR, precipitated by the existential threats posed by bokos, insurgents, and bandits, necessitated the declaration of a state of emergency in the security sector to bolster the nation's security architecture and this demands unwavering compliance from the heads of security agencies.

Unfortunately, however, this Presidential directives aimed at fortifying the security apparatus through strategic redeployment and promotion of deserving officers is ironically being treated with levity and recalcitrance. While some security agencies have demonstrated alacrity in implementing the President's orders, others have exhibited a reluctance bordering on subversion.

The Nigerian Army's recent circular issued and signed by the Military Secretary, Major General Ifeanyi Okoro, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, suspending retirements and outlining conditions for future promotions, has been criticized for its contradictions and disincentiveness, thereby creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, undermining the President's efforts towards revitalizing the security sector.

The imperative need for synergy between the President and the security agencies cannot be overstated. The security situation in Nigeria demands urgent attention, and every second counts. The President's leadership and decisiveness are crucial in addressing the security challenges facing the nation.

We suspect that some elements within the security apparatus are delaying implementation of the Presidential directive due to parochial interests and this innate desire to undermine the President's authority poses a significant threat to the national security.

Such inherent subversive attitude if left unchecked could truncate the government's security policy altogether, with catastrophic consequences for the nation.

The people of Nigeria and indeed the entire global community are watching with high expectations for the leaders to act decisively to readdress the security challenges in the country comprehensively. In this regard, the President's leadership is crucial and it is hoped that he will take the necessary steps to restore confidence in the security sector.

Accordingly, the Military High Command should again be given a marching order to promote all officers who have exhausted their third attempt without conditions – same way as the police were issued a fresh order on withdrawal of policemen from VIP duties.

- The Nigerian Army should review its circular and ensure that it aligns with the President's directives.

- The security agencies should comply fully with the President's orders and prioritize core security duties.

- The President should take disciplinary action against any officer found to be subverting his directives.

In conclusion, the state of emergency in the security sector is a critical moment for Nigeria. The President's leadership and decisiveness are crucial in addressing the security challenges we face today. It is hoped that the necessary steps will be taken to restore confidence in the security sector and ensure the safety of all Nigerians and their properties.
