Indigenous host community workers on Chevron Nigeria Limited’s Onshore and Escravos locations have called for intervention following Chevron’s alleged failure to implement welfare standards.

Speaking for the workers in Warri, Williams Ebo, said their representatives met with Chevron’s Corporate Affairs Division on October 29, at Protea Hotel, Warri. He said they assured workers that management approved 80 per cent of their demands and promised implementation in two weeks as a gesture of goodwill to end the industrial action.

He noted that the two-week deadline elapsed on November 12, with no action taken.

“Despite our contributions across Chevron’s Escravos and Onshore location, we have been consistently denied globally accepted benefits, including health insurance, medicals, and others.

“Chevron has refused to convert long-serving personnel to direct staff status, thereby undermining job security and morale. For over five decades, we have not been provided with itemised payslips, making it impossible to verify our lawful entitlements.

“They threatened to demote us for demanding equal treatment according to global standard.” Ebo said this led to peaceful protests lasting 14 weeks.

In an open letter to President Bola Tinubu; U.S. President, Donald Trump; chairman/chief executive of Chevron Corporation, Texas, U.S; monarchs; media; and others, the workers reaffirmed their commitment to peace but warned that failure to honour the October 29 agreement could create tension and disrupt the stability enjoyed by Chevron in Niger Delta.

They said Chevron’s Corporate Affairs Division in Warri, Onshore, and Escravos should be compelled to implement the agreement, ensure transparency, fairness, and full compliance with labour.

The letter reads: “We appeal to President Bola Tinubu; President Donald Trump; chairman/chief executive officer of Chevron Corporation, Texas, U.S; chairman/managing director of Chevron Nigeria; president of 10th Senate; National Security Adviser; group chief executive officer of NNPCL; minister of state for Petroleum Resources (Oil); governor of Delta State; Senate Committee chairman on Local Content; Senate Committee chairman on Host Communities (Oil & Gas); inspector general of Police; chief of Defence Staff; assistant inspector general of Police, Zone 5; commander of Sector 1, Operation Delta Safe; 63 Brigade commander of Asaba; Chief Government Ekpemupolo; Olu of Warri; Pere of Gbaramatu; and media organisations, including Arise TV, Channels TV, AIT, and TVC, to lend their voices, investigate, and compel Chevron’s Corporate Affairs Division in Warri, Onshore, and Escravos to implement the agreement—ensuring transparency, fairness, and full compliance with labour laws.” (The Nation)
