The Anambra State Government says arrangements have reached advanced stage for a major cultural and entertainment festival during the Yuletide.

The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed this on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Light House, Awka.

Mefor said the celebration, tagged ?Onwa Dezemba?, would feature a series of events, including masquerade displays, Christmas carols and musical concerts, involving top Nigerian artistes.

He said the activities would be staged at the recently upgraded Ekwueme Square, the Solution Fun City, Awka and other designated venues across the state.

He said the event was part of the government?s activities? to give residents and visitors an unforgettable Yuletide experience.?

According to him, the festival is part of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo?s efforts to promote tourism, culture and creative entertainment, while boosting the hospitality and local business sectors.

?The council received and refined a report on plans to give residents the most memorable December experience ever.

?It will feature masquerade festivals, Christmas carols and musical fiestas with renowned Nigerian artistes,? Mefor said.

He also said that the council also welcomed the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaechie, and wished him a successful and impactful tenure.

He reiterated the government?s support for the university?s full autonomy, particularly in the selection and appointment of vice-chancellors. (NAN)
