Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has urged Nigerians to rise and hold the country’s leaders accountable to stem the on-going perpetuation of mind-boggling corruption and resist increasing domestic debt.

He is of the view that the twin evil of corruption and debilitating domestic debt would destroy the country unless Nigerians act fast to save the country.

Obi suggested the Middle East example of mass uprising as a way to tame corrupt political leaders and their partners in the business world, particularly oil subsidy beneficiaries.

Delivering his goodwill message during the opening ceremony of the Second Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) holding in Umuahia, Abia State capital, South East Nigeria, Obi insisted that time has come for Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable through action, not talking.

“We have talked a lot in this country. It is time those we lead should hold us accountable,” he told the gathering comprising Bishops from the 52 Ecclesiastical Provinces in Nigeria, government functionaries and the laity at the Bishop Nwedo Episcopal Centre, Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia.

He appealed to the Bishops and Nigerians to give suggestions on how to make the country better, stressing that Nigeria is rich enough to accommodate everybody.
