The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-cultural Association has lamented the continuous genocidal massacre of Fulani Pastoralists by non-state actors in the name of vigilantes and Yansakai across the country.

The association, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to set up a high-powered panel to unmask those responsible for the dastardly acts and ensure that justice is done to the victims’ families in the shortest possible time.

This was contained in a communique jointly signed by the National President and Secretary of the association, Abdullahi Bello-Bodejo and Saleh Alhassan, respectively, and made available to newsmen in the Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa state on Tuesday.

Our correspondent reports that the communique was the summary outcome of a recently held Expanded National Executive meeting organised by the national leadership of the association to X-ray the challenges confronting the Fulani Pastoralists in Nigeria.The expanded meeting had state chairmen of the association and other critical stakeholders in attendance.

According to the communique, members of the association also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to livestock development and enhancing security and the general welfare of the pastoralist community across Nigeria.

The association also applauded the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence for adopting both Kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in addressing the conflicts, particularly in the North-west, that had been ravaged by rural banditry.

The communique reads in part, “The meeting noted with dismay the continuous genocidal massacre of Fulani Pastoralists by non-state actors in the name of vigilantes and Yansakai, and called on the Inspector General of Police to set up a high powered panel to unmasked those responsible for the dastardly acts and ensure that justice is done to the victims’ families to avoid people resorting to self-help.

“The meeting appreciates the decision of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to commence designation, gazetting and development of all the 415 grazing reserves across the states of the federation as a strategic step in addressing the challenges confronting Fulani Herders in Nigeria.

“This will include building of earth dams and solar boreholes, building of veterinary clinics, and development of Dairy (milk) collection centres.

“The meeting condemned the continuous profiling of Fulani Pastoralists by some sections of the media and called for unbiased and justice-based reportage of the farmers’ and herders’ conflicts.

“The meeting expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his commitment to Livestock Development, enhancing security and general welfare of the pastoralist community in Nigeria, and appealed to Mr President to ensure adequate funding of the new Ministry of Livestock Development, which would see to the full implementation of the National Livestock Development Plan.”

According to the communique, the meeting dismissed the consistent claims of farmers-herders conflicts as the major drivers of instability and insecurity in Nigeria, explaining that the conflicts are rather exacerbated by activities of state-sponsored vigilantes and tribal hordes who willfully continue to carry out extrajudicial killings of Fulani Pastoralists.

The meeting further observed the need for the overhauling of the Nigerian Security and Justice Systems in order to address cases of injustices and access to justice by pastoralists, with the executives saying “many of our youths are languishing in detention centres without trials across the country.”

On August 29, 2025, the National President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, said Fulani pastoralists are not criminals, adding that they are major victims of banditry and insecurity in the country.

Othman-Ngelzarma stated this in response to a comment by a Plateau State-based cleric and President of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries International, Prophet Isa El-Buba, who accused Miyetti Allah of being complicit in ravaging insecurity. (PUNCH)
