The Forum of State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the North-East, has expressed concern over the exclusion of the region in the implementation of the Federal Government’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) initiative.

This is contained in a communiqué at the end of the North-East Zonal meeting of the party on Friday in Gombe.

The communique read by the SDP Chairman in Gombe State, Malam Adamu Modibbo, dismissed the action as “deliberate and unjust.

“It is unacceptable that a region with vast agricultural resources and one of the largest land masses in the country is ignored in such a critical development initiative.

“We call on President Bola Tinubu and the federal government to urgently reconsider this exclusion and ensure that the region benefits equitably from national development projects,” he said.

Modibbo said the forum also passed a vote of confidence on the national leadership of the SDP under the stewardship of Shehu Gabam, and commended his patriotic and inclusive leadership towards repositioning the party.

He urged Nigerians to support the SDP, describing it as a people-centred party driven by ideology, integrity, and a clear vision for national development.

He also called for strict adherence to the rule of law by all arms of government and security agencies, and warned against attempts to undermine constitutional rights of the citizens.

The chairman assured that the forum would work to foster unity within the party and mobilise strategically ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The growing number of defectors and new members joining the SDP across the North-East as evidence of rising public trust in the party’s leadership and vision.”

The meeting attended by the party chairmen in Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa and Yobe sought to strengthen its unity and strategise towards future electoral victories. (NAN)
