Efforts by Boko Haram terrorists to penetrate southern Nigeria have been frustrated by the Nigerian Army, resulting in the arrest of 42 suspects in their hideouts in Lagos and Ogun states in the country’s South-West.

Disclosing this yesterday, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Div. Maj.-Gen. Obi Umahi, said the suspects were nabbed during raids carried out between July 12 and 23.

Umahi said the suspects, who were paraded before newsmen yesterday in Lagos, were arrested following intelligence reports from army operation commanders.

He disclosed that the suspects were arrested at Ibafo Trailer Park, Ileke New Trailer Garage, Ogun, Aviation Quarters, Mafoluku-Oshodi, Mile 12 Motor Park, Ketu, Orile Trailer Park, Lekki New Extension and Bar Beach, Lagos.

“Army officers from 81 Division carried out coordinated raids in some major criminal hideouts in Lagos and Ogun States which are under our area of responsibility,” he said, adding:

“This is in response to intelligence reports on the influx of Boko Haram terrorist elements into Lagos and Ogun states. The command organised and conducted raids, in junction with intelligence operatives, in various parts of these states.”

Gen. Umahi said that some of the suspects have confessed to have taken part in Boko Haram operations that led to loss of lives in parts of the country, including the killing of soldiers and civilians in Maiduguri, Borno, in Nigeria’s North-East.
