A youth group known as Anambra Youth for Change has condemned what it viewed as the flagrant use of the name of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, by the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for the purpose of the November 18 governorship election in the state.

Addressing journalists in Awka, the state capital, the coordinator of the group, Hon. Curtis Okeke said the youths in the state were rooting for Chief George Moghalu of the APC as their choice candidate for the election.

While opposing the use of late Ojukwu’s face and name as an object of electioneering tool each election period in the state, the youths should vote for the APC.

He observed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had disappointed the late Igbo leader adding that Ojukwu had a contract with APGA during former Governor Peter Obi’s administration to produce the next Governor of the state from Nnewi, Ojukwu’s country home.

According to him, APGA had reneged in that agreement by foisting Obiano who is from Aguleri in Anambra North Senatorial district on the people of the state.

“With this disappointment, we are calling on the people of Anambra State not to be hoodwinked by the current APGA campaign in the state dropping Ojukwu's name.

“We have seen posters and banners from APGA dropping Ojukwu’s name as part of their campaign for the November 18 poll. Obiano should allow Ikemba to rest in peace. Obiano should tell us his achievement not Ojukwu’s achievements.

“APGA has deceived the people of the state with Ojukwu’s name, Obiano cannot do that again because he did not know Ojukwu and did not do anything for him.

“Go and visit Ojukwu’s country home, Nnewi, there is no single project from the state government in the area.

“Obiano told us that he would complete and commission all Peter Obi’s projects, but he did not do that; rather he abandoned such projects all over the state, particularly in Nnewi, Ojukwu’s home.

“They can’t deceive us again. We must ensure that Anambra is hooked to the centre in the election,” Okeke stated.

He called on Chief George Moghalu to take up the challenge of being the next Governor of the state to salvage it from what they described as “apparent ruins meted out on the state by the APGA government in the past 11 years.”
