The National Hospital in Nigeria’s capital city has been re-opened hours after it was sealed off.

The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) had shut down the hospital over its failure to settle its waste disposal debt.

AEPB said the hospital owed N7.7m.

Earlier on Tuesday, the building was sealed off, following a Court order by a Federal Capital Territory Chief Magistrate.

Chairman, Ministerial Task Commission, Baba Shehu Lawan, made the disclosure after executing the order on Tuesday.

He said the court gave the order after it issued three different summons to the chief medical director of the National Hospital J.A. F. Momoh.

Momoh however refused to honor the court summons.

According to him, the Chief Magistrate Court II presided over by Chinyere E. Nwecheonwu on the 22nd June, 2016 ordered the sealing of the National Hospital and subsequently, adjourned the case to 13th July 2016 for hearing.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, had on the 30th June 2016, written to all government institutions indebted to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to pay their debts or risk having a chunk of their overhead expenditure deducted from the first line charge.
