Zamfara lawmaker dies after brief illness

Alhaji Tukur Jekada, a lawmaker representing Bakura Constituency at the Zamfara House of Assembly is dead.

Mr Shamsudeen Hassan, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, disclosed this while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Sunday.

Hassan said that the lawmaker died after a brief illness on Sunday.

Jakada was the Chairman of the House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs before his death.

The Zamfara State police command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, arrested and quarantined 251 illegal artisanal miners in the state, the state police commissioner, Mr Usman Nagogo, said on Saturday.

He said he led a team of policemen to one of the major mining sites at Kwalli in Bukkuyum Local Government and the result was that some Chinese nationals and their Nigerian collaborators were arrested and had since been handed over to Force CID, Force Headquarters Abuja. (NAN)
