The Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State has held a one-day seminar at Umuchu in Aguata local government area to educate the electorate ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Speaking at the seminar, Anambra PPA leader, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, called on the electorate to be politically active and vote in the right candidates.
He said that the voter education had become imperative because of the low turnout of voters to collect their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in the area and the parochial attitude towards politics.
“We got to change our mindset and redirect it properly, aiming at taking ownership of activities that will lead to good governance; our times and lives of meaningful existence lies within our powers.
“We can only exercise and change the ugly face of our present polity by simply voting out of conscience and not inducement of any kind,” he said.
He enjoined the stakeholders to inculcate and imbibe political discipline, uprightness, firmness and best practices into politicking to achieve the best in governance.
According to him, “Politics is not for the rich to get richer but to give sense of living to the down trodden, voice to the voiceless, strength to the weak, smiles to the wrinkled faces and hope of living to the hopeless.
“We can do it, we can change our gory situation to glorious situation, we can improve our content like our contemporary in Western world, our change lies within and beneath us if we desire a bitter living. We can make the move, get your voter’s card, be qualified to be part of history.”
Ezeemo further urged the stakeholders to carry his message to the people in the hinterlands, including the youths and women.
The PPA leader stressed that the voters' education awareness should not be left for the government alone, adding that every group should help to inculcate in the minds of the growing ones, the best way of living.
He said that in a couple of days PPA would hold a symposium where party faithful and interested voters would be taught the basics of a good electorate and party faithfulness as a way of reducing electoral violence
A participant, Chief Chukwudi Anadi commended the PPA leadership for embarking and channeling their resources to the benefit of all, overlooking party affiliations.
He commended the party's effort in creating awareness for electorate to be active in political activities around them to make right choices.
Also PPA’s candidate for Idemili North and South, Chife Ofili, hailed the party leadership for taking such laudable step to educate electorate on the need for political wisdom.
Barrister Ikenna Ezeibene, a candidate for Aguata 1 state House of Assembly, said that the voter awareness was imperative and promised to ensure that eligible voters in his constituency collect their PVCs.
Similarly, the party’s candidate for Aguata Federal Constituency, Mrs. Angela Okoye, commended the party for educating the electorate on the need to be active in the nation's politics, the importance of collecting their PVC and also voting rightly.
