Fire guts property worth millions of naira in Anambra

A storey building belonging to late Chief Bernard Okonkwo of Umudunu village, Abagana in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, has been razed down by fire.

Though the cause of fire which started around 9:00am on Tuesday is yet unknown, property worth millions of naira was destroyed.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that the area has been cordoned off to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.

The statement partly reads: “Following the distress call, Police patrol team led by DPO Abagana Division, CSP Prince Ugochukwu Ezejiofor rushed to the scene and alerted the fire service department who responded swiftly and extinguished the fire.

“The cause of fire is yet unknown and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

According to the police spokesman, there was no loss of life and no casualty recorded.”

Mohammed said that case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
