In what represents a significant paradigm shift, Kano State on Monday decisively overtook Lagos in new COVID-19 infections.
Figures released late last night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) turned up surprising results: While there was no single new case in Lagos, the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, Kano accounted for a huge chunk of the 38 new cases.
Another highlight of the NCDC update, which put the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country at 665 as at 11:10 pm, was the fact that the disease, also known as coronavirus, has spread to three new states namely Abia, Gombe and Sokoto.
Below is a breakdown of the 38 confirmed new cases:
23 in Kano
5 in Gombe
3 in Kaduna
2 in Borno
2 in Abia
1 in FCT
1 in Sokoto
1 in Ekiti
The NCDC update showed that the total number of those treated and discharged is 188, while 22 deaths have been recorded.
Globally, over 2.4 people have tested positive to COVID-19 while more than 17,000 have died.
