Bishop of the Diocese of Evo, Anglican Communion, Rivers State, Rt. Rev. Innocent Uchechukwu Ordu, JP, says the celebration, yesterday, of Palm Sunday offers all Christians, indeed all Nigerians and everyone in the world, an opportunity to call on God Almighty for mercy, and plead with him to save mankind from the ravaging Coronavirus.

Bishop Ordu made the statement in his sermon during the Palm Sunday Service at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Rumuobiokani, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, beamed worldwide by the Advent Cable Network Nigeria TV (ACNNTV).

It was a service in conformity with government guidelines on social distancing, hand washing and use of hand sanitisers.

Rt. Rev. Ordu said that Nigeria and indeed the world is bleeding and crying as a result of COVID-19, and therefore searching for a Messiah to rescue them.

“Let’s cry unto God now. Let’s call on Him to forgive our sins and save us from Corona virus,” he said.

The Bishop quoted several portions of Scripture, such as Jeremiah 33:3, Mathew 11:28, and Psalm 103, which show that God has the power to save His people in times of trouble.

“The word of God says He will heal our infirmities; He will restore our health; the Lord is compassionate.

“As we celebrate the triumphal entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, let us call on Him to heal us and save us from the Corona virus pandemic,” he said.

“Viruses are subject to Jesus,” the Bishop said. The congratulations shouted “Hallelujah!!”

During the intercessory prayers, the congregation prayed earnestly for Nigerians and the government for God to bless their efforts in combating the dreaded disease.
