The campaign team of Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero received a boost in Igabi Local Government Area as over 200 members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) decamped to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC decampees were received at the PDP campaign rally in Igabi on Tuesday, where they handed over their APC membership cards, brooms and posters in replacement for those of the PDP.

Speaking on their decision to dump the APC, leader of the decampees, Dr. Bello Rigasa, said they were discomforted by the approach of the APC to its campaigns which, according to him, “encourages thuggery and violence against innocent people.”

He said they have decided to join PDP to contribute to the election bid of Yero. “We are satisfied that in the last two years the Governor has performed creditably well and he deserves to be supported for another term,” Rigasa said.

Speaking at the campaign rally in Igabi, Yero said his administration in the last two years placed greater attention to security and education. “We have recorded some level of achievements because Kaduna is more peaceful than we met it and public schools have improved,” the governor stated.

He said the present administration rehabilitated about 200 public schools, employed over 2,500 teachers at primary, secondary and tertiary levels and sponsored 154 students to study abroad through the overseas scholarship scheme.

Yero said if elected “we shall increase investment in education because that is the only means of sustaining our growth as a state. We need to provide education opportunity for all especially for children of the poor who cannot afford private schools.”

The governor called on the entire people of Kaduna State to fully participate in the electoral process. “We must conduct ourselves peacefully because all of us are brothers and sisters and there is life after the elections. I call on our people to exercise their rights by voting for candidates of their choice,” he stated.

From Igabi the Yero campaign team moved to Soba and Kubau Local Government Areas where a large crowd of supporters received the Governor and his entourage.
