A primary school teacher was early Thursday morning given the beating of her life by an angry parent who accused her of imposing and collecting a fine of N50 on her seven year-old son, Michael. The teacher, Ms Chidinma (surname withheld), who teaches in one of the private schools located in the Agulanna Road axis of Ama Nmo area of Aba, was said to be in the habit of collecting fines from her pupils who spoke in vernacular within the school.

According to sources close to the school authority, Ms Chidinma had been warned on several occasions to desist from the act to no avail. But unknown to her, some parents whose wards had been victims have been secretly planning on how deal with her.

It was learnt that everything got to a head yesterday morning when a mother with her two grown-up sons came looking for her. The angry mum, Mrs. Ogwo and her two sons, Kalu and Monday, on sighting Chidinma, who was just coming to her duty post, immediately pounced on her, demanding a refund of the money she allegedly collected from Michael the previous day.

“All hell was let loose as they slapped and kicked her,” an eye witness told this reporter.

When this reporter visited the teacher, she confirmed “imposing fine on the pupils to maintain discipline and probably turn them better students in the future.”

At her work place, the Head Teacher who pleaded that her name and school should not be mentioned insisted that Chidinma acted on her own as “we have always warned her to stop doing things against the ethics of our profession.”
