Lagos motorists and commuters should brace themselves for the worst as repair work on the Third Mainland Bridge starts today.

The work, being handled by Borini Prono, will see traffic diversion on the bridge between 12 midnight and 12 noon, according to the Lagos State Commissioner of Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa.

According to Opeifa, “In the morning, that is between 00:00am and 12 noon, traffic will be diverted for those coming from Lagos Island to the mainland, at Adeniji Adele. Motorists are expected to divert to Carter Bridge and thereafter proceed to Iddo where the redistribution will take place.”

He also disclosed that inward Lagos Island traffic diversion will commence from 12 noon from the Anthony-Oworonshoki interchange.

Over 700 traffic officers have been designated to assist with traffic control for the four months that the project will last.

Transport & Business Express reports that the previous rehabilitation work in 2008 saw massive traffic snarls in Lagos. Little is expected to change this time.
