Wartime Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd.), billed as one of the Special Guests of Honour at the ‘Never Again!’ Conference organised to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War, is absent from the event holding now at MUSON Centre, Lagos.
He, however, sent a recorded message presented at the occasion. He also sent a speech themed “Reminiscences of the End of the Civil”.
According the organisers, Nzuko Umunna and Igbo Foundation Lagos, Gowon said he had engagement overseas for which he had earlier made a commitment.
In his recorded message played as the conference kicked off this morning at Agip Recittal Hall of MUSON Centre, Onikan, Gowon defended his actions, including the disbanding of the regions and their replacement with multiple states.
Several other prominent personalities are present at the conference, including the Guest Speakers – Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and erudite developmental economist, Prof. Pat Utomi.
