The inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign organisation was this afternoon suspended and rescheduled for tomorrow by 11:00 am, over the demise of President Goodluck Jonathan’s sister, last Sunday morning.
The suspension of the exercise was announced by special adviser to the President on political affairs, Professor Rufai Alkali at Legacy House in Abuja, where the event was schedule to take place this afternoon.
The announcement was made when the event was about to commence in earnest as all the prominent personalities and officers of the campaign organisation were set to be inaugurated and ushered into the campaign train.
Professor Alkali said: “I know you have been here since early morning waiting for the arrival of his Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his entourage to formally inaugurate the presidential campaign organisation. But as you are all aware, the President lost his sister yesterday in the morning. In view of this, he has decided to suspend this inauguration until tomorrow by 11:00 am.”
