The Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Chief Oko Enyim, has described the claim that the former member of Afikpo North East, Hon. Maria Nwachi, would have won the 2019 election of Afikpo North and Afikpo South Federal Constituency under Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) as ridiculous and over-rating her political relevance.
Briefing newsmen recently in Abakaliki, the council boss noted that the former lawmaker has no political relevance in the council area and wouldn’t have won any election in 2019.
Enyim queried that if the ANN candidate claimed that she would have won the election, why didn’t she seek legal redress to reclaim her purported mandate.
The council boss said: “My attention has been drawn to the malacious propaganda and vicious falsehood been peddled by the former member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Maria Ude Nwachi over her claim of about N80 million naira entitlement owed her by the state government.
“I consider this claim ridiculous and campaign of calumny against the integrity and National image of our dear Governor, Engr. David Umahi. The allegations raised by the said ex-lawmaker are nothing but wastebin materials that ordinarily should not have attracted any attention but for the fact that it was merely intended to diminish the reputation of our amiable governor, I decided to clear some issues.
“Maria Nwachi’s claim of being owed N80m allowances by the House of Assembly is unfounded and unimaginable. She claimed she was frustrated out of the Federal House of Representatives election in 2019 but was elected under PPA in 2015. It’s therefore ridiculous to claim that because she was elected by her constituency in 2015, it was a guarantee to be elected by two local government areas into the House of Representatives. The only thing which Maria has succeeded in achieving was to over rate herself politically.
“Her involving foremost national authorities shows how desperately imaginative she is to garner public sympathy and cheap political relevance.”
The council chairman enjoined Governor Umahi not to be distracted by the virtuperations of the former lawmaker, as the people of Afikpo North council area are mostly gladdened by the enormous state government ongoing projects in the area.
Enyim therefore advised the public and all authorities of government to discountenance the claim of the former Minority Leader as it was baseless and fallacious.
