Two teenagers were arrested after allegedly dispossessing some commuters of their belonging at the notorious long bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The arrest of the teenagers occurred twenty-four hours after a robber was arrested at the same spot for the same crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated this on Friday.
Oyeyemi said the two suspects, Salam Faruk, 18, and Sunday Okechukwu, 19, were arrested about 9:30p.m. by policemen on joint patrol operation.
According to the PPRO, the patrol operation was co-ordinated by the Area Commander Owode-Egba Acp, Irimiya Asimiya.
He said the teenagers were arrested while trying to rob motorists who got stuck in traffic gridlock as a result of the road construction going on.
He said, “The policemen, who are on foot patrol of the area sighted the two suspects who were armed with dagger knife with which they were forcing commuters to surrender their properties.
“They were subsequently chased and arrested before they could jump under the bridge.
“On interrogation, the duo confessed to have come from Lagos to the long bridge for the purpose of robbing motorists held in the gridlocks of their valuables.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-robbery Squad for discreet investigation.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police also directed a twenty-four-hour patrol on all the highways across the State so as to checkmate the activities of hoodlums. (The Punch)
