The family of Alhaji Sani Dauda (ASD) has debunked the claim by the police that their daughter had an illegal second marriage. The family also denied the alleged beating of a concerned citizen by a mob at the instigation of Alhaji Dauda.

According to a statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday and signed by a member of the family, Mr. Sadi Ibrahim, there is neither a stay of execution nor any superior judgment setting aside the initial judgment that dissolved the marriage between their daughter, Nasiba, and her ex-husband, Abubakar Musa. Therefore, her second marriage is not only valid but legal, he said.

The statement raised some salient points as to the validity of the claim by the police that a concerned citizen was lynched for expressing dissent to the proposed marriage at the venue of the wedding.

The family specifically indicted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu “for using state apparatus to protect the failed marriage of his friend through clandestine means.”

The family in the statement recalled that the police public enlightenment campaign program issued a statement casting aspersions on the genuineness and authenticity of Alhaji Dauda’s claim that policemen from the IGP brutalised him and his daughter over “a legal marriage” consummated under Sharia law when the previous marriage with her ex-husband was dissolved by an Upper Area Court in Tudun Wada Kaduna in January 2019.
