The Imo state chapter of the Shippers Association has adopted Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, a shipping magnate and Chairman/CEO, Genesis Shipping, as its Patron.
The President of the Association, Hon. Larry Osuagwu, disclosed the decision over the weekend during a courtesy visit jointly paid by the management of the Nigerian Shippers' Council, South East zone and the newly executive, Imo State Shippers’ Association on Capt. Ihenacho in his Emekuku Owerri country-home.
Hon. Osuagwu explained that the choice of Capt. Iheanacho was informed by his immeasurable exploits and experience in the shipping and maritime sector vis-a-vis the desire of Imo Shippers’ Association to latch on his experience in providing quality services and operational guidance to those venturing into import and export as well as international trade from the state.
Also lending his voice, Mr. Ofurum Obinna, Assistant Chief Operational Officer, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, South East zone, who represented the Director, Rev. Winner Anayo, expressed the determination of his team to work closely with the Imo state chapter of association to ensure that those seeking shipping services from Imo state are protected while carrying out their businesses.
He described Capt. Iheanacho as a pronounced stakeholder in the shipping and maritime sector in Nigeria whose vast experience and network in the business will definitely help the Shipping Council and Imo Shippers’ Association deliver on their lofty objectives.
While accepting the nomination, Capt. Ihenacho, who ventured into shipping in 1970, thanked the executive and members of Imo Shippers’ Association for finding him worthy to serve as their Patron.
He expressed joy that his 'profession has indeed followed from Lagos to his home state', adding that shipping shall remain part of his life.
He applauded the collaboration and synergy between the Nigerian Shipping Council and Imo State Shippers’ Association and promised to do all that is within his capacity going forward to ensure they deliver on their mandate.
Also in the entourage were Mrs. Bosin Nkechi, Finance Officer, Nigerian Shippers' Council, South East Zone, Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe, Mr. Everest Ezihe, Linus Ibeawuchi, Vice President, Secretary and Public Relations Officer of Imo Shippers Association respectively.
