Comrade Zubairu Muktar, the Convener of Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Kaduna State, has expressed dissatisfaction over what he termed as alleged buying of certificate by some local government chairmen in the state.
Muhktar and his Co-Convener Comrade Richard Austine alleged that some local government chairmen bought Honorary Doctorate Degree from an unaccredited university in Cotonou which has no benefit to the local government nor the good people they represent.
According to the statement made available to the media and jointly signed by the conveners, they added that it is a great disservice to the nation and the people of Kaduna State and a disregard to the instructions of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The conveners stated that President Buhari had on the occasion of the approval of local government autonomy, emphatically stated that the local government funds are to be put to judicious use so that the dividends of democracy can reach the grassroots.
Comrade Mukhtar said that they stand firm in support of Governor Nasir el-Rufai from inception till date because of his visionary plans and people-oriented policies.
“They should emulate him by enrolling in an International or Famous Indigenous Universities and obtain an academic doctorate degree.
“They should be worried about developmental projects and not enrolling in luxurious events like buying such frivolous certificates that hold no value, a certificate which a NECO results in more value than,” it stated.
Comrade Muktar stated that “It is very unfortunate that the fight against waste of government resources in Kaduna State is being sabotaged.
“It has become imperative for us as patriotic citizens to draw the attention of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State Mal. Nasir Ahmed El-Rufa’i, an upright and incorruptible leader who is also a front runner in the fight against corruption to beam his search light into the accounts of Local Governments alongside other authorities who have constitutional rights such as the Ministry of Local Government, The House Committee on Local Government and Auditor General Local Government of Kaduna State.
“Imagine an official trip to Benin Republic of 4 Chairmen with a total escort of about 20 people to receive a honorary doctorate degree with government resources at the expense of the people.
“This is highly irrational and unacceptable,” he said.
“We would remain committed to support the fight against corruption and urge our young people to always be patriotic and do the right thing,” the coalition stressed. (Independent)
