Nigerians Against Terror (NUAT) has expressed shock over the dehumanisation of detained journalist Agba Jalingo and demanded the immediate stopping of his trial, which it described as a charade.
NUAT in a recent statement in Lagos signed by the Convener, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, demanded “a halt to the orchestrated charade that has flowed so far from the trumped-up charges against Jalingo.”
It demanded justice for Citizen Jalingo, noting that “an accused person is presumed innocent under our law until proven otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
NUAT condemned Citizen Jalingo “being handcuffed like a common criminal while being paraded before the media as he was brought to the court by Rivers State government.”
“We wish to state that such cruel treatment of Comrade Jalingo is a conspicuous affront on human dignity in any civilised clime,” NUAT said, demanding that “Mr Jalingo should not be treated as a criminal when he has not been found guilty of any offence.”
