The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has set aside this Sunday, December 7, as a day of special prayers for victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the country and to collect SPECIAL OFFERING to assist them.
CAN National General Secretary, Dr. Musa Asake, announced this in a statement issued this morning in Abuja.
The statement, a copy of which was made available to News Express, reads in part: “It is pertinent in times like this for all brothers in faith, to reflect on the individual and collective lives of Nigerians vis-à-vis the challenges that we have all faced in the course of the year.
“It will be recalled that at different forums and on different occasions, CAN has urged Nigerians of different faith to pray for peace and the end to the insecurity plaguing the nation.
“CAN has undoubtedly remained the strong voice against the evil of Boko Haram and other vices in the society, condemning their acts and suggesting ways of countering them, to the appropriate authorities.
“Unfortunately, Nigerians are still inundated with pictures and reports on the ceaseless mayhem in parts of northeast Nigeria and this has prompted CAN to appeal to all churches in Nigeria to set aside Dec. 7 as a day of special prayers for the victims of the insurgency and to collect SPECIAL OFFERING to assist them.
“We are expected to offer special prayers, not just for our slain Christian brethren but for all those who lost their lives in the attacks, that the Almighty God will grant them eternal rest and through these prayers intervene in the challenges that the insurgency has brought to the countless number of families that have been directly or indirectly affected by the crisis.
“Pray that God will give us all the wisdom and strength to execute this task with minimal difficulty to the glory of God the father, Amen.”
