Umunya Anambra community elders threaten attackers of monarch with banishment

Elders of Umunya community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have threatened suspects behind recent attacks on the community’s traditional ruler, Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje, with banishment if the act continues.
Speaking during an oath taking ceremony of indigenes of the community as well as town union branches in various parts of the country organised by the monarch, the elders warned that such act will no longer be tolerated henceforth.
Chief Reuben Jephat who moved motion for peaceful coexistence among the people of the area, stressed that anyone involved in fomenting trouble in the community would be banished.
The motion was seconded by Nze Emma Nweke.
Addressing members of the community, the monarch, Igwe Onyekwuluje, said the meeting was necessitated following lingering crises that have bedeviled the community leading to series of protests.
He said he has forgiven his detractors and promised not to relent in the pursuance of peace in the community.
Onyekwuluje however called on the gods of the land to go after anyone that would henceforth tarnish his throne after the resolution.
Chief priest of the community, Ichie Sunday Anaeze while overseeing the oat taking instructed the respondent to do it barefooted.
He warned that anyone who lied in the course of taking the oath would die after seven days.
The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who was represented at the event by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Traditional Institutions and Community Matters, Mr Benjamin Umerah, on his part, reassured his commitment to ensuring that relative peace was restored in the community.
He also harped on the need for the community to seek peace saying it will help for speedy development.
