Twenty-year-old Idris Abubakar Muhammad, an internally displaced person (IDP) has emerged the overall winner of World Qur’an and recitation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently. Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that Idris was brought to Maiduguri by his uncle Goni Adam Muhammad from Marte Local Government Area of Borno State before he memorised the 60 hisbs of the Holy Quran.

A journalist with Borno Radio Television (BRTV), Barrister Abdulsalam Mohammed who witnessed the competition which took place in Makkah, Saudi Arabia told our correspondent that it was a tremendous feat for the state and Nigeria.

“This indeed is a rare feat which previous participants could not achieve with few attempts. The way it’s being done, you have to emerge first or second from school, local government, state, zonal and national levels before you can qualify to represent your country. Young Idris emerged as overall from grassroots to the national,” he explained. (Daily Trust)
