Following his resolve to rid Anambra State of crime, the state Commissioner of Police, John Abang, has led a crack team to arrest the leader of Awka main market, Emeka Agumadu, a.k.a “Baby Awka” over alleged sponsorship of a cult group in the state.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, on Wednesday confirmed that Agumadu was arrested for allegedly sponsoring cult-related killings in the area.
The statement reads in part: “It would be recalled that on the 10th and 11/08/2019, there was a clash between two rival cult groups, the Black Axe and Vikings confraternities at Eke Awka and Dike Park all in Awka South LGA of Anambra State where one Chinedu, surname yet unknown alias Nambo and Uche Anarah were brutally murdered. “Baby Awka”, who is a high chief in Awka, was arrested on Tuesday.
“Following the incidents and while acting on credible intelligence, the command’s Puff Adder operatives led by the Commissioner of Police John Abang had on the 13/08/2019 around 4: 20 p.m. launched a manhunt for the hoodlums at Dike Park and Umukwa village areas of Awka, arrested four suspected sponsors/members of Black Axe and Vikings confraternities.”
Mohammed identified the four suspects arrested during the raid for alleged sponsorship and membership of Black Axe and Vikings confraternities to include Ozor Emeka Agwumadu a.k.a Baby Awka, Okechukwu Nwaneke, Prince Collin Ozojiofor, and Nwankwo Chukwuma.
