Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Peter Aruwan, on Monday disclosed that some interested persons in the state kicked against his appointment to head the ministry.

The State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had about a fortnight ago sworn-in 13 commissioners, including Aruwan.

However, addressing executive members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, who paid him a courtesy visit on Monday, Aruwan said that one does not need to be a security expert before attending to security issues.

He said: “There was a lot of apprehension when I was appointed. Some people said I am not a security expert, and that I am a journalist, why should I be appointed? But as a journalist, l am very versatile in every aspect of the society. I don’t need to be a security expert to man this ministry.

“We have security challenges in the state, but we will overcome it soon.

“We will continue to partner with the media to move this state forward. The media is my constituency, one day I will return to the field to report news again. I am grateful to you for coming.”

Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, while presenting a letter of congratulations to Aruwan, expressed happiness over his appointment, saying: “You are our own, and that is why executive members of the council have come to facilitate with you. We wish you success.”
