In the early hours of today – Friday, July 19 – Disney dropped the “Lion King” sound track.

Produced by America’s front line singer, songwriter and actress, Beyonce Giselle Knowles Carter, the sound track is packed with Nigerian Afrobeat artistes namely Wizkid,  Burna Boy, Yemi Alade,  Tekno and Mr Eazi, among others.

Beyonce who lends her voice to the character Nala in the movie calls the sound track “a love letter to Africa”.

The 38 years old mother of three and lead singer in the defunct R and  B group, Destiny’s Child says she was just out to find some of the best artistes in Africa hence the long list of Nigerian artistes.

Hear her: “I wanted to make sure we found the best talent in Africa... I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”

Some busybodies are asking why Davido, the self-styled Omo Baba Olowo’s name is conspicuously missing from the list of “best talents” in Naija, according to the American super star.

And my answer to that question is: If you ask me, na who I go ask?

But one thing is sure, “Lion King” is set to take Afrobeat to the mainstream of global music.
