Worried by what it regarded as disturbing and unacceptable activities of some youths said to be ex-militants and cult members of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government, the State Government has threatened to cancel the amnesty granted them by the immediate past administration.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Gerald Irona, gave the warning at the weekend, while playing host to a delegation of opinion leaders from Ochia and Awarra communities.

He wondered why there were continued clashes among the suspected cult members, who had renounced their activities and surrendered their guns, after being granted amnesty.

He said: “They were granted amnesty by the last administration. They ought to have surrendered their guns and repented. Protection of lives and property is government’s primary business. If they are still involved in cultism and terrorising innocent citizens with arms after accepting amnesty, the Government will not fold its arms and watch them do that…”

Meanwhile, Governor Emeka Ihedioha, has said he would review cases of monarchs suspended by the immediate past administration of Rochas Okorocha. The Governor also directed introduction of moral instruction in Imo schools.

Ihedioha made the disclosure at the weekend, when some monarchs, under the auspices of Concerned Traditional Rulers’ Forum, led by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, paid him a courtesy visit.

Declaring he would ensure justice was done, the Governor urged the monarchs to continue supporting his administration, as it strengthens the traditional institution.

The monarchs, through their spokesman, Eze Anayochukwu, commended the Governor for signing the Executive Order 005 for the implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA), which they said would check fraud; enthrone transparency, probity, accountability and financial discipline. (The Guardian)
