Expectations and pleas by Igbos that one of them be appointed the Secretary to the Government (SSG) by President Muhammadu Buhari were dashed on Friday evening when he re-appointed Mr Boss Mustapha for the position, and Malam Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff (COS) to the President.
This was disclosed via a statement signed by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who said that both appointments took effect from May 29, 2019.
The clamour for an Igbo to be appointed either SGF or COS arose following the exclusion of the major ethnic group from other the military hierarchy and all branches of government.
Immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu – a loyal and longtime member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was touted as the frontrunner for the SGF position but Buhari had other ideas.
