The Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), Anambra State Chapter, has stressed the need for the Nigerian electorate to shun money politics and vote for candidates who will provide basic amenities needed by the people when in power.

Addressing members of the newly formed caretaker committees for the 21 local government areas of the state at the party’s secretariat in Awka, the state leader of the party and its governorship candidate in last year’s governorship election, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, said PPA is starting off on a clean slate to be able to identify the genuine members of the party.

The party, according to Ezeemo, had been used and dumped in the past but that would not be allowed to happen again.

He said that each local government would have five persons in the new commiitee, who would, in turn, co-opt other members from the 326 wards in the state to register new members in the state for the progress of the party. The PPA chief called on people who want to belong to the party to hurry and register.

In his words, “We have decided to sanitise sthe party and the national headquarters in its wisdom has given us the go ahead.

“Many of us in PPA had been used and abandoned in the past and we in the new PPA say that it will never happen again.

“The political parties that have been using money to deceive the people have been responsible for the country’s woes and we can no longer tolerate it.

“For the 2015 presidential election, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of PPA will soon take a decision on which way to go.”

Ezeemo noted that the new committees will be guided by the party’s constitution, adding that those who believe in PPA will enjoy the party if only they will have at the back of their minds that politics is just a game.

He said PPA will field candidates for all positions that will be contested in Anambra State next year and urged the members to work towards identifying credible candidates for the various positions.

Speaking at the occasion, the state chairman of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Udeonu, warned that those found to have black legs would be removed, saying that PPA was gearing towards changing the face of politics in the state.

The formation of the caretaker committee came on the heels of the dissolution of PPA executives in Anambra, Adamawa, and Oyo by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on the grounds of anti-party activities.
