President Muhammadu Buhari is under intense pressure to appoint immediate past former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, as the next Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

This came at a time when there were wide spread speculations in the social media that President Buhari has appointed Dr. Onu to replace Mr. Boss Mustapha as the new SGF.

But President Buhari is yet to do so.

Findings by News Express revealed that the fake appointment has caused anxiety and stirred up intense public discussion within Ebonyi and other states of South-East region and beyond.

But a reliable source in Aso Rock said that a caucus meeting where the former Minister of Science and Technology was nominated, was convened few hours after the leadership election of the Senate and House of Representatives were conduct last week Tuesday. The source close to the Presidency who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the decision was reached in the “Blue Room” at the Presidential Villa.

The reliable source who was optimistic that the Ebonyi State-born Chemical Engineer, a seasoned administrator and founding father of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is considered for the SGF position by the Presidency.

He said: “The rumours and insinuations that trended in the social media last weekend on the former Minister’s purported appointment as the SGF might not be far from the truth Dr Onu possessed the pedigree, qualification, credentials, temperament, focus and capacity for the job.

“Above all, he is a loyal party man among any others in the APC who has the party manifesto at hearts, not corrupt, and never found to practise political prostitution at any point in the history of Nigeria politics.”

At the moment, expectations are very high among the APC faithful and people of the South East and beyond to see the announcement made public.

Others in lineup for ministerial appointment were the former Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Bernard Odoh.

Prof. Odoh resigned his appointment as the SSG to Governor David Umahi-led government to join the ruling APC where he contested for the party’s governorship ticket but lost to Sen. Sonni Ogbuoji.

Odoh, Dr Paul Okorie who served as Commissioner for Works during Chief Martin Elechi and Dr. Sam Egwu’s administrations in the state, and Chief Austin Edeze, a Board of Trustee member of the ruling party are likely names for any ministerial appointment from the state.

It was also gathered that the three names were in the good books of Dr. Onu who is totally in charge of the party structure after the woes of the past elections in the state.
