Nigerian Muslims this morning joined their counterparts across the world to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr.

Also known as Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, or the Feast of Fast-Breaking, Eid-El-Fitr marks the end of the month-long Ramadan fast.

The head of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar had earlier on Monday formally declared the end of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.

Abubakar said the new moon marking the end of Ramadan was seen in states like Borno, Yobe, and Katsina. The new moon marks the end of the 29 days of Ramadan fast for Nigerian Muslims.

To allow Muslims to mark the day, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays.

The Muslim faithful thronged praying grounds across the country on Tuesday to thank God for the successful completion of the fast. (Channels TV)
