The Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Party Affairs, Chief Ben Obi, has taken a swipe on the widow of late Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu for allegedly laying claim to being the custodian of symbol of authority of the late patriarch in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
He made the statement against the backdrop of a media report credited to Ojukwu's widow, Bianca Ojukwu.
Recall that in an unexpected twist at the recent national convention of APGA, held in Awka, Bianca Ojukwu and Emeka Ojukwu Jnr respectively were nominated as members of BoT of the party.
Bianca Ojukwu had been the only one from the Ojukwu dynasty that had earlier occupied the position hence, creating room for rivalry between the two.
Obi said that if such claim was made by Bianca Ojukwu, then, “she is a day-dreamer.”
Speaking to reporters in Awka on the issue, Governor Obianor’s aide said: “That would be arrant nonsense and anybody saying that is not a true Igbo person and do not know our culture and tradition of our people.
“I learnt that Bianca is even saying the same thing. I challenge her to attend the meeting of elders in Nnewi and sit in council with them as the head of the late Ojukwu family.”
He urged her to desist from any act that would incur the wrath of Nnewi women on her, adding that that would lead to their dealing her a blow traditionally.
Ojukwu Jr, several cultural and traditional stakeholders and members of APGA have also dismissed Bianca’s claim.
Reacting to the parallel convention of the party, Obi insisted that there was no other validly conducted convention in Owerri, saying that an Ibadan High Court order gave the convention held in Awka, Anambra state a valid legal backing.
While saying that any other convention is of no effect, Obi said: “We have an Ibadan High Court order which clears us to organize our convention in Awka and I did not see any court order from Abuja stopping us from conducting our convention.”
However, the coordinator of APGA Integrity Forum, Mr. Umunna Chukwurah, alleged that there is a plot by some top APGA leaders to destroy the party following the absence of former National Chairman, Sir Victor Umeh, Amb Bianca Ojukwu, and Dr. Alex Otti among others, at the convention.
He added: “Our party should be very warry of the activities of Bianca and her co-travelers in the party. Bianca should go for atonement for her actions against the party and even her late husband.
“The way and manner the widow of Ojukwu, our late leader, is going about the politics of APGA is unbecoming of an Igbo woman and she should be called to order before things get out of hand.”
Efforts to reach Bianca for her reaction failed as calls placed to her telephone did not go through.
