Anambra Police Command dislodges cult members during meeting

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested certain Chimelue Muokwe, aged 36 years, for alleged cult activities in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was learnt that the suspect was nabbed during their nocturnal meeting at Obinagu village, Abagana, while others escaped.

A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that the arrest was possible following intelligence report.

The statement issued on Friday reads in part: “On 30/5/2019 at about 12:30pm, there was a credible intelligence report that secret cult members gathered at Obinagu Villa, Abagana in Njikoka LGA for a nocturnal meeting and perfecting plans to launch an attack on their perceived rivals.

“Following the report, Police detectives attached to Abagana Division responded swiftly and arrested one Chimelue Muokwe ‘m’ aged 36 years while other suspects took to flight abandoning some exhibits.”

The exhibits recovered from the suspected cultists include: 3 double barrel locally made guns, 2 short axes, 1 spear, 4 machetes.

Others were a native juju pot, mirror and some quantities of weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Mohammed said the case under investigation while effort is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to bring them to justice.
