The Nigerian Senate has resolved to invite the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, next week, as a result of the current state of facilities in Nigeria teaching hospitals.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, made the announcement during the plenary session on Thursday, noting that it must be briefed about the current situation of health facilities in the teaching hospitals.

No further deliberation was made on the matter as lawmakers proceeded on other items on the order paper.

The Senate, also on Thursday, passed the Public Holiday Act Amendment Bill which will acknowledge June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

The bill is coming almost a year after President Muhammadu Buhari announced the new date as Democracy Day and will serve as a replacement for May 29.

The bill, which is a concurrence to the version passed by the House of Representatives, will be forwarded to the President for assent before it becomes a law.
