Collation of results of the rescheduled constituency polls held in four local government areas of Rivers State is on-going, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) favoured to claim a landslide victory.
The re-run election was held in Abua/Odua, Ahoada West, Gokana, and Opobo/Nkoro local government areas.
Voting, which took place earlier on Saturday, went smoothly, after which the ballots were collation centres designated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The re-run election in Ahoada West became necessary after elections in 47 Polling Units were declared inconclusive due to the margin of lead. In the other affected LGAs, violence made it impossible to hold the election during the March 9 polls.
With the federal-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) barred from contesting based on court orders resulting from internal crisis, the coast is clear for PDP, the ruling party in the state, to further consolidate its grip on the oil-rich state.
