Three suspected bombers arrested by the Army, during the just concluded Governorship/House of Assembly elections in Imo State have been handed over to the state police command.
It should be recalled that the suspects were arrested by the Army at Iho collation centre in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state. The suspects were said to have made their way to the collation centre with some of their explosives hidden in their clothes. As they were positioning to accomplish their aims, the army personnel on ground suspected their move and they were arrested. However, investigation revealed that the Army also handed over other suspects who were found wanting during the said elections.
Public Relations Officer, PRO, 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Mohammed Bawa, said: “The Army has handed over to the Imo police, those suspects arrested during the elections in Imo State.”
The arrest of the suspects followed protests by the Ikeduru people where the incident took place. It has been reported that the reason for the protest was to call on the police to prosecute the suspects as well as fish out the sponsor of the said incident. To this end, they have continued to stage protests to the Imo police command in Owerri, requesting that the law should be applied in the event that led to the arrest of the said bombers.
At the time of filling this report, several calls to the phone of the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, did not go through as his phone was switched off. (Vanguard)
