The Niger Delta Patriotic Forum for Youth Development has condemned what it called the orchestrated blackmail of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator, Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo.
The group made the condemnation in a recent statement signed by the President, Taremi Zuokumor, and Secretary-General, Comrade Prince Tony A.
The statement frowned at the story which recently made the rounds that Prof. Dokubo was arrested with hoodlums for allegedly carting away items supplied to Boro Town Vocational Training Centre in Bayelsa State, dismissing it as false and unfounded.
“We don’t know why someone will cook up a story like that just to tarnish the name of a well-respected and reputable leader of Professor Dokubo’s calibre,” the group said.
It lashed out at the Concerned Niger Deltans for Sustainable Development (CNDSD), which accused of being behind the rumour.
The group praised Prof. Dokubo for insisting that things “be done in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda.”
It noted that, for the Amnesty boss, “integrity is the watchword,” adding: “So any group who has nothing to offer to the growth and development of this President’s agenda by making the Niger Delta great should hide in shame. The level of peace and development we are enjoying today is as a result of President Buhari foresight in appointing the person of Professor Dokubo, who has done incredibly well in making sure that peace and development are sustained in the Niger Delta.
“As soon as he was appointed, Prof. Dokubo responded immediately by setting up a committee to investigate the looting of the funds earmarked for the Niger Delta and we can categorically say that the looters will be caught and prosecuted soon.
“Professor Charles Dokubo has done credibly well and deserves commendation instead of this cheap blackmail. His track record still speaks for themselves, so his detractors should desist from further blackmail because it will lead nowhere.”
