Folarin Falana, musician son of the erudite lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, popularly known by his stage name Falz, has said that men and women are equal before the law and so should be given their due respect.
The 28-year-old lawyer turned rapper and actor said this on Sunday as his own way of extolling the virtue of the womenfolk during the celebration of International of Women's Day.
“We have to be more aware of the systematic oppression that the patriarchal system we live in encourages. We have to be conscious of the role we play in that. More importantly, we have to move away from that as swiftly as possible. Legislation plays a big part in achieving gender equality, but the real work starts within us. Our mentality,” said Falz who refers to himself as “The Bahdboy”.
Continuing he said: “The woman is not your subordinate in any way, she is your counterpart and must be treated as such. Women have, and will continue to lead, create and inspire.
“Happy International Women’s Day to all the beautiful and hardworking women out there.”
