The Igbo Youth Forum on Friday frowned at a viral message circulating online, which advises Ndi Igbo resident in Lagos State to stay at home and avoid any polling station today, Saturday, March 9, 2019 to avoid attacks.
“We want to state that such threats are in the minds of those who crafted that wicked and divisive message, and are circulating same to psychologically terrorise Ndi Igbo. We also wish to make it very clear that any form of intimidation and physical harm that is visited on Ndi Igbo for exercising their civic rights by miscreants sponsored and goaded on by political elements for their selfish and parochial reasons shall be met with very stiff resistance,” the Forum’s International Coordinator, Nze Ugo-Akpe Onwuka (Oyi na Oyi II), said in a statement.
“We wish to implore the security agencies to be on top of their game and ensure that such individuals who issue such threats and the miscreants they employ for their obnoxious schemes are apprehended and prosecuted,” he said.
Continuing, the statement said: “It is very instructive at this time to make Ndi Igbo in Lagos state understand that they are citizens of this country and should stand their grounds as such.
“Do not let anyone under any guise intimidate and disenfranchise you.
“Maintain the peace, go out and cast your vote for your desired candidates in the Governorship and state Assembly elections and defend yourself if the need arises.
“Once more we are reiterating our call to the security agencies to ensure that peace is professionally maintained before, during and after the elections tomorrow in Lagos State.”
