Hoodlums burn down Anambra police station, beat up policemen

Ajali Divisional Police Station in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State was in the early hours of Thursday razed down by fire allegedly ignited by unknown hoodlums.

The fire, which allegedly started at about 2:30 a.m., burnt the station as well as cars parked within the premises.

Policemen on duty were also reported to have been beaten to a pulp by the hoodlums, whose motive remains yet unknown.

A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that it “is a case of fire incident for now until proved contrary through discreet investigation.”

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Dandaura, has visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

The PPRO disclosed that the CP has ordered the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence “to conduct a thorough investigation in order to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.”
