•Governor Okowa commissions road projects

It was celebration galore on Tuesday as the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, commissioned road projects in Aniocha North and South local government areas of the state.

Commissioning the Idumuje-Unor/Idumuje-Ugboko road and Uzougba link road to Issele-Uku/Otulu road, Ubulu-Okiti respectively, Okowa thanked Deltans for appreciating the success stories of his administration.

He said: “I am excited that our people, Deltans, are happy with the projects we have executed. It is a thing of joy that through effective partnership, you have created the enabling environment for us to meet with the requests you made during the town hall meetings.

“We are paying a lot of attention to road construction; all over the state, our people are testifying that we have done very well, but, there are still many more roads to be constructed. The more we construct roads, the more the demands for more roads.”

Governor Okowa assured that his administration “will continue to do more roads so that we will continue to get more demands because road infrastructure is very important for the socio-economic development of our people, our state.”

He added: “I am grateful to Deltans for giving us peace; peace has given a great boost to our revenue source. With improved revenue, peaceful disposition of our people and partnership, next four years will bring about more transformation of our communities which will ultimately enhance better days to us as a people.

“In the coming days, we shall be to different communities to commission more projects.”

The commissioning ceremonies were almost turned to political rallies as Deltans in their large numbers came out en masse to appreciate the Governor for delivering on his electoral promises. They chanted “Okowa till 2023”, “Okowa Again”, “Okowa the Road Master”, among others.

The Governor responded by telling the people to mobilise all eligible voters to cast their votes for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “because our people are happy with us, we believe that God is happy with us and because God is happy with us, we are confident of victory at the polls.”

“We will continue to run a government that is people-oriented; I also believe that in this election that equity is something that you cannot do away with; the right of the people of Delta North to aspire for second term cannot be thrown away. If as one family, a united family in Delta State, with equity, and tolerance, we become a stronger family; it is our civic duty to vote and with your votes, you would have honoured the people of Delta North and stick to the zoning of political offices,” Governor Okowa further said.

In his address, the President-General of Idumuje-Unor Patriotic Union, Nigeria, Mr Dom Afam, said: “Our dear Governor, this particular kingdom, Idumuje-Unor has been transformed by virtues of your famous SMART agenda that we can now conclude that the dreams of our fathers of old are now becoming reality.

“The Deltans count ourselves absolutely fortunate to be beneficiaries of your enigmatic leadership which has continued to bring succour to the missed.”

At Ubulu-Okiti, Chief Emmanuel Emecheta, on behalf of the Obi of the Kingdom, HRM Agbogidi Edward Osemedua II, and Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. Isaac Anazia, also listed the achievements of Governor Okowa and assured him of the votes of Deltans for PDP candidates in the February 16 and March 2, 2019 elections.
