The Police in Enugu on Tuesday arrested two ladies for allegedly abducting a primary school pupil near the child’s school.

A statement by the spokesman of the Police in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, gave the names of the two ladies as Nkiruka Odo of Imilike Agu in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, and Precious Chukwuemeka Chinyere of Aguleri Anambra State.

He said the suspects tried to abduct a little child coming out from a nursery/primary school located at Imilike Ani in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

“Their arrest by the police operatives who acted swiftly became possible following intelligence information gathered about the syndicate,” he said.

The Police spokesman said the suspects have confessed to having carried out the abduction of a four year old school boy identified as Ugwu Levi Chiagozie from another nursery/primary school also located at Imilike Ani last month.

According to him, the suspects alleged that they handed over the child to a nurse in Anambra state for sale.

“Items recovered from the suspects are little children’s wears, biscuits, chin chin, candies and other items that can allegedly be used to entice little children,” he said.

The PPRO disclosed that efforts are on to arrest other members of the child kidnapping syndicate.

He advised members of the public to always exercise vigilance and be security conscious “to avoid falling into the antics of these mischief makers who are in the habit of abducting children from churches and gatherings.”
