A suspected Boko Haram chief butcher, who was arrested last month by the Nigerian Police, is now singing in police net. Paraded yesterday in Abuja by the police, Zakari Mohammed hails from Kaigamari village, Daptchari in Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State, also sang like a canary, even naming some of his accomplices.

Mohammed, 36, confessed that he had been a member of Boko Haram for two years, disclosing that he worked with five other members of the terrorist group, naming Hassan Garba and Mohammed Isa among his accomplices.

He also confessed having killed five people, saying he usually took two minutes to slaughter a victim after the other four members would have tied and held the victim.

Parading Mohammed, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba, said he was arrested on  July 12 while fleeing from a counter-insurgency operation.

His words: “Following the massive onslaught of security forces on the activities of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, at the Balmo Forest, Bauchi State, police detectives attached to Bauchi State Police Command on Saturday, July 12, about 2:00 p.m. arrested one Mohammed Zakari, a male of 30 years old and senior member of the Boko Haram group along Darazo-Basrika road, while fleeing from the intensive counter insurgency operations going on around the Balmo Forest.

“The suspect is the self-styled ‘chief butcher’ of the insurgent group at the Balmo forest camp.”

Continuing, Mba said: “The suspect whom investigations reveals was tutored in the art of insurgency at Gombe forest, under the leadership of a fleeing insurgent, one Abba Taura and moved to Balmo Forest, three months ago, is discovered to have actively participated in the April attack against Customs Officers at Kari Town, along Maiduguri Road, Bauchi State.”
